Chakra Series: Solar Plexus
The Sanskrit name, “Manipura,” meaning City of Gems,”recalls the custom of Hindu temple dancers who epitomized the radiant glow of this Sun Center by wearing jewels in their navels. This chakra embodies our power and sense of purpose, symbolizing who we are and why we came to be. It shapes and molds our identity to the specifications of a blueprint we set for ourselves.
If we by chance forget who we really are or who we came to be, if our power is threatened or we lose control, if we deny our purpose or become unfocussed, then we begin to manifest situations to expose our presumed and unrelenting powerlessness. We become bullies, loud-mouthed, manipulating procrastinators, compensating for an inability to let go of control. In reverse we personify the wimpy, passive, under achievers, hiding a lack of self-worth amidst a fear of failure and its opposite force of success.
The solar plexus assimilates the mental and emotional energies essential to the culmination of our desires and ultimately our will. This means that when we don’t get what we want we have a cosmic tantrum, maybe hold a few grudges, go into our “It’s not fair!” place, and revert back into the darkness of our inner victim. Internalized this energy affects the stomach, liver, intestines, spleen, gall bladder, pancreas, digestive and nervous systems. Upsets in these areas of our being can indicate that we are not getting what we want in the way we want it or the way we expect it to be. This makes us very unhappy because we have forgotten who we are truly are.
Together with the root and sacral chakras Manipura is part of a “Holy Trinity” of supreme manifestation. Individually these centers can reveal many wonderful gifts. Yet when they work in harmonious unity combining the root chakras power of attraction with the sacral power of creation and the will of the solar plexus, the resulting force is so powerful that it can not only help us achieve our purpose, but can manifest all of our desires. It is through our desire that we ignite our will. But if our desires do not meet up with our expectations then we need to let go into the higher will.
Close your eyes, relax and breathe into your solar plexus. See the brilliant radiance of your personal sun. When you feel ready ask your solar plexus these questions:
When do you feel most powerful?
When do you feel least powerful?
Ways to reclaim your power:
- Food has the capability of damping emotions so occasional fasting helps the energy to move often bringing up hidden memories of past emotions.
- Use the yogi Breath of Fire or a succession of rapid breaths to release pent up emotions
- Use movement to open and cleanse the chakra such as standing with legs shoulder length apart, arms held out at right angles like a T twisting round, swinging arms from side to side.
- Write a list of seven talents you are proud to own, then write a letter to the divine telling him/her why you should be employed as an Earth Angel
- Make an intention to accept that you are who you are and you are doing your best
- If it is hard for you to express your feelings make changes by changing your language. Start your conversations with “I feel…”
- Notice how you disable your will by criticizing yourself and change each criticism with a positive affirmation.
- Imagine this center opening like a flower in the front and the back. See light within the flower opening the petals, cleansing and rejuvenating the flower.
- Laughter is one of the most healing expressions of energy we will ever encounter. Sometimes we can laugh so hard that we hold our tummies. Get a good comedy to watch, listen to comedy radio, make an intention to play fun games that will make you laugh.
As you know I will be teaching a five-day course on Psychic Sensitivity and InTuition the last week of August at Omega. A large part of this course is specifically designed to open, cleanse, and balance chakra energies. The chakras are centers of consciousness. Releasing energy helps us reconnect with our psychic mechanism as well as assist us in our every day lives. The course is fun, with lots of games to play with the intention to heal and awaken your latent powers.
Namaste
Love and blessings,
Elizabeth
