Chakra Series: Third Eye
Essentially the third eye, as you would expect, is a center of outer and inner vision. Dreams, imagination, perception, creativity, conceptualization and foresight illustrate the unleashed paradigms of vision embraced by this center. As the emotionally charged heart of insight and intuition, one of its most appealing qualities is to absorb, assimilate, and understand information from both the physical and spiritual worlds. This means that it can go beyond the auspices of our restricted perception and give us a brief glimpse of Nirvana. We see the truth of who we are and what we came to be. During these times we become psychically conscious, easily comprehend universal truths and realize our capacity as creator and manifestor of our visions. When a yogi reaches this level of awakening he is said to be divided from the ultimate vision of the absolute by a thin layer of opaque material.
The Ajna Mandala reveals a circle embraced by two wings, one either side, demonstrating its ability to fly into many different dimensions of being. One wing represents imagination or the conceiver of the vision, while the other symbolizes the manifestor. The saying; “Be careful what you think….” is transformed by the third eye into; “Be careful what you imagine because it just might happen!”
Although some link it to the Pituitary gland, I feel the Pineal gland, described by the French philosopher, Descartes, as the “seat of the soul,” is best aligned with the third eye. Although this is one of the least understood glands recent experimentation has uncovered some interesting traits. Ostensibly the psychic gland, it responds to light, heat, and electromagnetic energy. It is sensitive to hormone balance and seems to support our natural rhythm. Finally, one of its most important qualities is its navigational power. You know when your third eye is out of alignment because you will have a poor sense of direction. Maybe the way to get you from A to B is simply to inform your third eye of where you want to go, envision it, then allow it to plot the course and give you the directions.
If the third eye malfunctions we may experience an inability to put our ideas into action, daydream our lives away, lack direction and purpose, have limited vision, fail to connect with our inner light, become too intellectually or intuitively biased, and confuse ideas between what is real and what is not real.
Ways to balance and work with the Third Eye chakra:
- Like any chakra it can be stimulated by exercise. Rolling the eyes around and from side to side, or blinking your eyes while imagining your third eye blinking and expanding too can stimulate an awakening.
- “Where attention goes energy flows!” Yoga asanas such as the Child’s Pose focus attention on the forehead and can expand the energy in this area.
- Meditation balances the left and right brain, naturally creating equilibrium in this center. The meditation in my articles section serves this purpose well.
- Another way to balance the left and right brain is through alternate or Ida and Pingala breathing. This can also stimulate clairvoyance.
- Close your eyes and imaging that you are cleaning the windows of the third eye. Sweep away the cobwebs, polish the glass, and allow the light to shine through it like a lighthouse, from all different angles.
- Learn to listen and act on your intuition.
- Widen your perspective. When you watch a program on TV watch the people in the background, start looking at the whole picture instead of just what is in front of you.
- Use indigo to widen your horizons like the night sky
- Spend more time in the sunlight.
- Replace strip lighting with natural light bulbs
- Computers can affect your electromagnetic structure. Use plants next to the computer, particularly cactus plants, or/and amethyst crystals to negate the effects.
Affirm: I acknowledge and trust my spiritual vision. I am comfortable expressing the insights I receive. It is safe for me to communicate what I see. I know that whatever I see is for the highest good. I love seeing the subtle energy of all divine manifestation. I am consciously aware of my power to create and my ability to manifest all aspects of my life.
