Prana Prayers

Many think that the month of August was named after Augustus the ruler of Rome. However, an “august man” was one filled with the spirit of the Goddess and was a term applied to male priests. So the Emperor Augustus took his title from the Great Mother of the Gods implying that he was a direct descendant.

During August the sun shines her/his wonderful life-giving rays onto Gaia maintaining life and sustaining all of her children. One Native American ritual is to exhale your first morning breath into cupped hands and offer it as a gift of gratitude to the rising sun.

Prana-yama, a term used in yoga, means to lengthen (yama) life-force energy (prana). Some en-light-ened yogis live by the breath alone absorbing prana or life-force energy straight from the sun. These “breatharians” use meditation and breath to absorb prana.

This month make a conscious intention to absorb prana or life-force energy. Sit in the sun for ten minutes, close your eyes, give your first breath to the sun in gratitude, then take a few deep breathes visualizing the prana filled golden rays infusing your body, mind and spirit with life. Whenever your mind wanders center yourself using your breath.
