How Numbers Can Indicate Your Year Ahead
The History of Numerology
Numerology is the ancient science of numbers and letters used by mystics through the ages to access anything from the personality of a person to finding a lost object. Evidence of numerology dates back thousands of years to China, India, Egypt, and Babylonia. Pythagoras, the first philosopher and mathematician of ancient Greece, created his own system of numerology over two thousand years ago and is known by numerologists as the father of numerology.
Lucky Numbers
In numerology some numbers have a reputation of being either lucky or unlucky. The number seven for instance is thought to contain magical powers. Seven combines the masculine digit four with the feminine three. Consequently it was revered as the number of creation. This union is seen as a transgression in the “seven deadly sins.” Another lucky emblem the four-leafed clover was originally a symbol of the triple goddess. The Three Brigit’s or mother-hearts lost favor to the masculine four-leafed clover, which was thought to be uncommon and therefore more glamorous. In numerology seven is the number of Neptune, a mystical planet shrouded in mystery. In the tarot seven is the number of “The Chariot,” symbolizing movement and change - just as it is in this numerology.
Unlucky For Some
Before the number thirteen became unlucky it figured highly in ancient society and in numerology is a powerful number. The calendar used to be based on the thirteen lunar cycles in a year, every twenty-eight days, not unlike a woman’s menstrual cycle. In fact Chinese women established a lunar calendar 3000 years ago, where the moon passed through 28 stellar mansions. Romans called the calculation of time “knowledge of the menses.” The Gaelic word for calendar and menstruation is the same. Unfortunately, any number or condition associated with women became “unlucky” during the 500-year purge on women known as the inquisition. Well, times have changed!
Numerology Growth Cycles
Many people use astrology to understand and prepare for the challenges and opportunities they will face during their lifetime. Numerology is another tool to access the mysteries of life. Numerology is similar to astrology in that it uses ones birthday to calculate the personality, challenges and soul growth of an individual. However, numerology is much simpler as it does not require knowledge of the stars or of complicated mathematical calculations. The numerology system used here is designed to ascertain probable events and influences during each year of ones life, based on the day and month of an individual’s birth. Added to the year in question the resulting calculation is known in numerology as your “numerology progression.”

There are four yellows and four indigos, both with an equal number of consonants and vowels. Yellow symbolizes the solar plexus, the power center. Indigo represents the third eye, the point of intuition. In my practice these are the two most important energies for me. The interesting thing is that yellow is a very outgoing color while indigo is a little more insular, perfectly describing the two sides to my character. These two energies blend intellect with imagination, the three violets express my spirituality, two oranges show my creative side and the one green is my ability to create healing and balance within my life. The missing colors, red and blue, are two areas I have to confront or invite into my life - grounded communication, success, and stability.
Let’s take a look at some of today’s New Age luminaries. First we’ll start with Doreen Virtue.
| D | O | R | E | E | N | V | I | R | T | U | E | |
| O | I | O | Y | Y | B | I | V | O | G | B | Y |
Doreen Virtue’s colors reveal strong orange and yellow aspects reflecting leadership qualities. These colors mixed together make gold and angels often relate to gold and they are in perfect balance of male and female energies. She really expresses her power in a creative way, is a flamboyant energy, very open, extremely sensitive, probably child like at times, but also a power to be reckoned with.
The number three is the path of the intellect, but hers mixes with her creative energy, so it shows she has a good mind. Her blue is the path of creativity connecting with her writing often including occult or hidden energy – indigo, again perfectly balanced. Finally the green heart and violet crown reveal that she is here to change and have a profound impact on the world.
The well-known pioneer Caroline Myss is next.
| C | A | R | O | L | I | N | E | M | Y | S | S | |
| R | I | O | I | Y | V | B | Y | G | O | Y | Y |
The most interesting thing about Caroline Myss’ name is it has all the colors. The dominant energy is yellow contained within the path of practicality. She would not suffer those who do not use their intellect or their common sense revealed by the larger number of masculine consonants. The yellow gives her the ability to listen to someone and make sense of everything even if they didn’t get it. So it may be frustrating for her at times when her pioneering spirit is not heard or understood. She gets it! That is her gift.
The indigo as her creativity is her third eye, her ability to see. Sometimes she has to take care not to get her mind in the way of her intuition – but then who doesn’t! And the orange equal with indigo supports her writing, but makes her produce rather than just think about it. The equal blue, red, green and violet shows that she can express herself on many different levels, but she does not always share her deepest spiritual ideals with everyone.
Let’s take a look at Sonia Choquette.
| S | O | N | I | A | C | H | O | Q | U | E | T | T | E | |
| Y | I | B | V | I | R | I | I | R | B | Y | G | G | Y |
Four indigos, this is Sonia Choquette’s path of practicality and it perfectly reveals that her thought process is entwined with her intuition especially since it is so feminine. Three yellows support her path of intellect, which almost balances her intuition, but her intuitive essence has the upper edge. The blue and green colors as her path of creativity shows that she speaks from her heart and can tend to let her emotions get the better of her. Her healing ability would come from her voice, however that may be expressed. And the red reveals she is a down to earth psychic who expresses herself creatively and playfully.
The missing color is orange reflecting she may be too sensitive at times and take things personally. Orange is the color of addictions, so she might exhibit some addictive behavior by becoming too fixed on something that could narrow her choices.
Finally we will look at Louise L. Hay.
| L | O | U | I | S | E | L. | H | A | Y | ||
| Y | I | B | V | Y | Y | Y | I | I | O |
With four yellows Louise Hay is certainly showing her leadership qualities and power in a very practical and balanced way. She shines a light for others to find their path. Her second color is indigo, but this is mostly internalized meaning she may not always verbalize her intuition when making decisions, but she does use this ability in her life. One blue, orange and violet feels like she has had some issues in relationships, karmic connections, and suffered much at the hands of others. Through the orange she has shared her past, but the blue and violet show the internal bruises remain like a tattoo.
She is learning in this lifetime the path of red and green, complimentary opposites on the color wheel. These are life and death colors, so she would have been faced with many decisions of whether or not to stay or leave. Both colors are about growth and not allowing stagnation to set in.
When you come to play with your own colors remember to use your intuition. Try not to intellectualize the process too much. And just have fun!
